The Frugal Frigate, a Children’s Bookstore is located in Historical Downtown Redlands. Our bookstore is part of an old carriage house built in the 1800’s. Walls are made of old brick and covered with hundreds of signed posters from visiting authors and illustrators. Imagine sitting and reading among solid wood shelves

filled with children’s books. We carry the latest in children’s books along with Caldecott, Newbery, first editions and out of prints. All are mixed together in a wonderful treasure hunt for book lovers.
Enjoy selecting a new book as you sit in a comfy armchair surrounded by autographed books or up in the loft amongst poetry and the classics. Bring your children in to explore the science room with hundreds of books, eco-friendly science kits, dinosaurs and lizards. For the littlest ones, the toddler room is full of board books, plush and puzzles. Don’t forget to let them all enjoy a tea party under the stairs!

Everything old is new again; opened in 1988 the bookstore’s appearance remains the same. We are still independently owned with an excellent staff that can assist you in finding just the right book, placing a special order, custom gift wrap and event planning. (As always, gift wrapping is free.)
